Apache

I just love this photo of Apache…he’s such a handsome boy. When I was running my pet photography business, I was lucky enough to have a few clients in Melbourne, Australia who wanted photos of their show dogs. I made the trip down for the photo shoots and made a long weekend of it in my favourite Australian city.

Apache is quite the champion and was going to be mated soon after this photo shoot. Boy I wish I could have seen his puppies.

The yard in which this photo shoot took place had all these great colours and urban textures, so I took the opportunity to have a play around with some artistic effects on this final piece.

Don’t Mess with Max

On Saturday afternoon I had an awesome time photographing my good friend Rebecca, her husband Pat and their new Puggle puppy, Max. It was a stunning afternoon so we headed to Balboa Park for a good mix of beautiful gardens and interesting architecture.

Max is only four months old, but he took his photography session so seriously. Whenever the camera was pointed in his direction he would stare at it with such fierce concentration. I’ve never seen a puppy with such an attention span, but it certainly made my job easier.

This is my first client session in about 10 months. I was worried it wouldn’t all come back to me, but it’s just like riding a bike (but more fun). Thanks to Rebecca for giving me the opportunity to get creative again and try new things.

Finding Nemo

In early 2007 I was really starting to ramp up my pet photography business. I had a steady stream of clients and I was looking to improve processes and start on the next direction the business was going to take. That’s all history now, because my ‘real job’ took priority when I was offered an awesome position in San Diego for three years.

Just before I found out about the move, I had designed this postcard featuring a handsome German Shorthaired Pointer named Nemo. I had a whole bunch printed, but I never really got around to using them at all. The process was a lot of fun, and I’d really like to learn more about graphic design. Perhaps I should do a course, or…..maybe I have enough on my plate and I should just stick to experimentation :) A good start might be a redesign of the blog to make it look a little more funky. What do you think?
