I’m off to Dayton, Ohio!

Today I’m travelling most of the way across the country to Dayton, Ohio. In my real life I earn a living as an Aerospace Engineer. I’m in the USA for three years to act as a technical liaison between Australia and the USA. It’s a great job and I get to do lots of interesting things. I’m not sure whether Dayton, Ohio is going to be interesting or not.

When I ask people about what there is to do there, I get told that it’s got a great Aerospace Museum. Ummm…ok. Is that it. Surely there is more??? If any readers come from the area, please drop me a line and let me know what I must see and do during my three weeks out there. I have a car and will travel on weekends.

Today’s dog photo has to include my favourite girl in the world, Zoe. I’m going to miss her so much while I’m away. Thankfully my husband, Brendan will be home with her for most of my trip so I don’t need to worry about deserting her completely. 

This is the ‘Hurry Up’ look she was giving me on a hike we did up in Idyllwild over the Easter weekend.

Zoe the Ring Bearer

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Zoe was the ring bearer at our wedding last year. Her presence at the wedding made the entire event so much fun. Throughout the entire ceremony she decided to face the wrong way so she could watch the ducks down on the pond. Didn’t she realise this was one of the most important days in her parent’s lives? She dropped her flowers somewhere on her walk down the aisle. The rings were attached to the flowers so there was a moment of panic when the flowers were found to be missing. Thankfully the rings were still attached to her collar. Please don’t consider having your dog in your wedding ceremony unless you can handle chaos on your big day!

I just love this photo of the girls getting the rings from Zoe. I can’t believe I only just rediscovered this photo on the weekend. I’m laughing as I remember everything that happened this day. I love that photos can invoke such a recall of memories.

Zoe lurches down the Aisle

When I got married in October last year, I couldn’t imagine having our wedding without Zoe. She had been my best friend for close to 8 years at that time, and I wanted her in our wedding party. Since she is normally a very calm dog, we thought it would be a breeze for her to be the ring bearer. My good friend and bridesmaid, Liz, kindly agreed to walk her down the aisle. Unfortunately for poor Liz, when Zoe saw every person she knew all in one place (including her Dad) she got so excited that she lunged her way down the aisle, stopping to say Hi! to everyone on the way. I hope Liz has forgiven me, but I’m sure no-one forgets how funny it was to see Zoe get so excited. It was so worth it.

Happy Birthday Mum!!

Today is my Mum’s Birthday. Mum has been my best friend for my entire life. She is also my biggest fan and supporter. I can’t tell you how comforting it is to have the unconditional love of someone who you know will be behind you no matter what. Thanks Mum. I love you and miss you so much.

Mum loves her dogs (all four of them) so I thought I’d post a photo of her German Shepherd puppy, Libby. Libby is now much older, but her ear is still like this. I think she looks comical, and it matches her personality perfectly.

I think this was the first ever doggy shoot I did after I had upgraded to a DSLR. That’s about three years ago now and it’s so funny to look back on those photos. When I went trawling through the archives for this photo I was bit worried it was going to be terrible, but after some new post-processing it came up OK.

Zoe by the Fireplace

We’re home from my work trip/holiday in Canada and the first order of business this morning was to collect Zoe from Camp Diggity Dogs where she’s been having her own special vacation. Brendan was going to collect her later this morning, but there was no way I was going in to work without seeing her first. 

As soon as she saw us, she went mad. Running around like a puppy, moaning and groaning in an anxious way that indicated we should never leave her again. Once we got home, I let Zoe into the yard and I went through another door. She started crying and yelping to be let in, like I’ve never heard before. Now she’s just following me around the house with her ball in her mouth and she’s groaning a lot. Poor dog. She’s so excited to be home. I think she missed us and much as we missed her.

When queried why we hadn’t seen much of Zoe on the doggy daycare webcam, we were told that Zoe spent all her days sitting in the Cabana with a ball firmly planted in her mouth. Apparently she got up every now and then to chase a new ball and make a swap, but mostly did a lot of relaxing. Well she is getting on a bit after all.

It’s nice to be home.

Hi Five
