I didn’t do it

This georgeous chocolate lab is called Wombat, after the Australian marsupial. When I discovered her name I nodded at the resemblance. Wombats are fabulous creatures which aren’t really seen that often in the wild, but during one trip to Cradle Mountain in Tasmania I had an up close and personal experience with a BIG one.

Anyway, back to this Wombat. As you can see, she has mastered ‘the look’. The ‘there is no way I could have done it becuase I’m so darn cute’ look. In this case, she was allowed on the special rug for photos. She knew she wasn’t supposed to be there and was just making sure with Mum that it was ok to sit there.

The original processing I did on this photo had quite bright colours so I added a bit of an old school feel to bring the image back in line with the furnishings in the background. I think I like the muted colours better on this one.

Tug-O-War

Today’s photo was taken the same day as this one at Coronado Dog Beach. It was a gloomy old day, but it made for some lovely diffuse light. When I saw these two dogs wrestling with this toy I knew I had to capture it. The poor old lab was so exhausted after 10 minutes of wrestling with the energetic little bulldog that he just sat down on his rump and wouldn’t move anymore.

This is what I love about the dog beach. Dogs who have never met before get to play and interact with strangers. I know it does Zoe wonders to socialise with other dogs. I think sometime she forgets she’s not a human.

I want to ride my Bicycle

I took this photograph in Tombstone, Arizona when I visited last month. It’s an amazing little town and the townfolk have dedicated themselves to keeping the town’s history alive. The main street has been preserved to look much like it would have when the Earp brothers had their famous shootout with the Cowboys at the OK Corral. (Yes, I’m quite up to speed on my Wild West history).

Walk two block away from the main street and the town looks like any other small Arizonan town. I really wanted some tumbleweed to roll down the street. Do you even get Tumbleweed in Arizona?

In late 2007 I had the very great pleasure of photographing a litter of Labrador Retriever puppies for a breeder. There were nine puppies in black, yellow and chocolate colouring and whevever I would crouch down to take a photo they would all want to climb on top of me. I stayed for hours and played with these adorable babies (while taking photos of course) and it was one of the most fun photography sessions ever. I cannot get enough of puppy cuddles. Oh man….now I really want another puppy.

Can’t get enough of Labradors? Check out Charlie the Calendar pin-up boy, the soulful eyes of Man’s Best Friend, or even the huge Smile of a Labradoodle.

Charlie

Charlie is a Labrador Cross who featured in the ARF calendar I photographed last year. In his photo, he looks very much like a standard Labrador Retriever, but in real life he is quite small.

When I found out that ARF had Charlie and his sister Pheobe in foster care, I thought they would be perfect for our Valentine’s shoot. No-one ever need know that they were brother and sister…they would just look like two puppies in love. We even smothered them in peanut butter so that they would smooch for the camera.

About halfway into the shoot however, I was told something quite disturbing. When Phoebe had come into foster care, she was pregnant with Charlie’s puppies. Certainly was an interesting back story for our Labrador lovebirds.

If you think Charlie is cute, you’re are going to love these Lab Puppies.

Man’s best friend

I adore this photo because it conveys a simple message, the love between a man and his dog. Couldn’t you just gaze into those eyes for hours?
