Guard Dogs

This shot was taken on the grounds of the Taj Mahal where quite a number of dogs seemed to be cared for by the guards. The Taj Mahal dogs seemed to enjoy a wonderful life of frollicking in the grass and posing for tourists in front of the famous monument.

Keeping watch

This is another in a series of photographs taken in Varanasi, India. I think after two weeks in India photographing dogs, I was really into the swing of it by the end. It also helped that my travel companions had clued onto what I was up to and would act as dog spotters. I’m not sure what it is about this photo, but it’s a bit of a fave of mine. Perhaps it’s because this dog is clearly a well loved pet. I guess I didn’t come across too many during my travels.

The Thinker

Bark!

She wasn’t barking at me…In fact she was posing quite nicely for me prior to capturing this moment. A man walked up behind me and she started barking at him.

Who here thinks that dogs are a good judge of character?

Agra Train Station

I love when you have waited patiently for a shot, and it actually comes together. I think many people fail to wait for their shot to happen, and therefore miss the moment. For instance, in this shot I saw the man with the cart walking alongside the train at the same time the dog was approaching this spot. I had been watching this dog for five minutes and knew that it stopped to scratch with some frequency. All I needed was for the moustached soldier to remain stationary and I knew it was a matter of time before the ‘moment’ would happen.

My philosophy is to always be aware of what is going on around you. That way you can often pre-empt when a good shot is about to happen.

The Wanderer

This shot was captured early one morning along the holy Ghats in Varanasi, India. The lack of light accounts for the gloomy aspect of the image and the bit of movement in the dog. Despite the less than perfect technical aspects of this photo, I think it expresses perfectly how it feels to walk along the ghats in the quiet of morning before the usual chaos of India erupts.

So far I’m really enjoying my time in Dayton. I’m on a course with 30 other internationals and I’m getting to know amazing people from all over the world. I’ve swapped contact details with people from Latvia, Slovenia, United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands to name a few. I’m also coming down with a severe case of Wanderlust again. Thankfully I have some cool trips coming up soon.

Thankyou! India Dog Gift Cards

I just wanted to say a huge thanks to those of you who purchased the Dogs of India gift cards. Most of them have now been posted and you should have received an automated response from my system to let you know they are on their way.

I’m still just waiting on a couple of checks to come in and then I can let you know the final amount we’ve raised. I can say we have currently raised just over US$180. What an awesome response. Thankyou all so very much. It goes without saying that I couldn’t have done it without you!
