Soul Dogs Collection - Two

Rennie is the second of six images in the Soul Dog Collection. His photograph was taken during my first ever client photoshoot. I much prefer his portrait in colour, but for the purpose of the collection, I had to process his image the same as the other five photos.

Ariel

Ariel is a local of O’Connor in Canberra, Australia. When I first met her I was in the area for coffee with friends. She was just wandering around and I thought she was lost so I checked the nametag on her collar. It said, “Hi my name is Ariel. I’m not lost.” Evidently, she’s a free spirit who can come and go as she pleases.

Over the year that I visited the precinct I came to know that Ariel came from the Cafe and Art Gallery directly behind her in this photo. I would often find her relaxing in the sun on the sofa, sitting at a patrons feet while they played chess out the front, and in winter curled up on one of the armchairs inside. She was a very laid back girl, but I could often coax her into a makeshift game of fetch. In this shot, we played with a stick no longer than my small finger. I think she looks like she’s smoking a cigar.

Lord of the Fleas

This puppy very nearly made it into my backpack when I was visiting India last year. If I thought I could smuggle her onto the plane and then make it through Australian customs without getting caught by the sniffer dogs, I would have done it.

The last time I re-entered Australia I got pulled up by the Labrador for smelling like my dog, Zoe. The entire plane-load of people behind me had to wait patiently while the lab circled me a few times and had a really good sniff. Then while waiting for my luggage to come off the carousel, the customs beagle discovered a whiff of three day old banana in my carry-on, so I had another long discussion with customs officials. As you can imagine, bringing a flea infested (although very cute) puppy from India was impossible.

However, for the couple of days I was in Orchha I kept an eye out for this little one. This photo was taken at the top of the town’s holy temple and it’s almost as if the puppy is presiding over her subjects. I have another great shot of this one with a holy cow, which I’m sure will make it onto the blog one of these days.

Wise Eyes

Here’s another portrait from Revelstoke. I have a couple of portraits of this dog which I like, this one with the ears down and then another with the ears up. I had a bit of a hard time deciding which I liked better, but in the end decided on this one for the serious, wise look.

Bella, the La Jolla Fashionista

BUY A PRINT, CANVAS OR GIFT CARDS

The other weekend I took my friend Liz up to La Jolla for the afternoon to check out this beautiful suburb. Thankfully I took my camera with me because there were so many dogs out and about. We met Bella as we were in search of some coffee. She is a Goldendoodle, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, so I guess she’s now blessed with looks and a brain. She’s certainly a pretty girl. Check out those eyelashes!
