Very Cavalier

BUY A PRINT, CANVAS OR GIFT CARDS

This little bundle of energy was only about 3 months old when I photographed her. She would not sit still for more than a second. Immediately after I captured this shot, she launched herself off the chair and into my lap. Don’t for a minute let her calm expression fool you.

I’m looking at you looking at me

Asia

Asia lives with Bron from Maadii Pets in Canberra, Australia. Maadii means ‘good dog’ in Thai so you can see that Bron has quite an affinity for all things Asian. Bron and Rachael used to dog sit Zoe if we ever had to go away for the weekend and couldn’t take her with us.

I’m currently looking for a good reliable pet sitter or dog boarding place in San Diego because I often have to go away for work. It’s such a hard thing to find someone trustworthy to look after your best friend….even worse than trying to find a hairdresser who doesn’t turn your hair a shocking shade of orange. In the meantime I am very grateful to George for doggy sitting Zoe for us.

Lexie

Lexie is a German Shorthaired Pointer and is hands down the most photogenic girl I’ve ever photographed. Because she was one of my earliest clients when I first started my business I still hold a very special place in my heart for her. In fact I still have a 600mm x 600mm canvas of Lexie gracing my walls at home for the time being.

Starting along this journey has truly been a wonderful experience for me. People I met through my pet photography have become my friends and I’ve been lucky enough to experience all life special occasions with my previous clients.

For instance, Lexie’s Mum and Dad got married sometime after their doggy photoshoot, so I was lucky enough to capture the wedding in which Lexie led Mum down the aisle. Now Lexie’s Mum is living in America too and I get to catch up with her tonight in Washington DC.

I hope she gets a nice surprise when she opens today’s post.

Who, Me?

Do dogs intuitively know how to give this look or are they taught it? Do you think they practice when we aren’t looking?

Man’s best friend

I adore this photo because it conveys a simple message, the love between a man and his dog. Couldn’t you just gaze into those eyes for hours?

Zoe improvises a ball

Zoe is obsessed with having something in her mouth. Whenever she isn’t lying down looking bored, she’s sitting with something in her mouth. Her favourite is a filthy old tennis ball that her grandpa gave her for Christmas (it was new then). We had to take it off her because she was becoming so obsessed with it that she would start hyperventilating without it. She had some sort of separation anxiety when she didn’t have it. So we’ve weaned her off the tennis ball, and now she’ll alternate between the following:

  • The pink ball
  • Her dinner bowl
  • Her yellow bow-wowser (a fancy name for a ball shaped kong)
  • Some sort of seed pod which fell off the neighbours tree, and
  • An icecream bucket

In fact, some Jehovah’s Witnesses popped around for a visit the other day. Zoe greeted them at the door with an ice-cream bucket in her mouth. They were laughing so hard that they could barely get their speech out. They ask if I was interested in a pamphlet which I politely declined and they went away still laughing. That was much easier than teaching Zoe to bark and growl at folk who come around trying to sell something.

Who else has a dog this obsessed with having something in their mouth?
