Pink Ribbon Day

[Update] Sorry, I had meant to write a little something about this photo, but got busy this morning. This shot was taken at Floriade (Spring flower festival) in Canberra. Pink Ribbon Day was coming up and I was helping to raise funds for this great cause. Dogs aren’t usually allowed in Floriade, but Ms Chloe is a Companion Animal and was therefore allowed. She was quite the sight with her stunning pink ribbon on her rear end and plenty of tourists were taking photos. It was such a hot day and the poor girl must have been baking in her black coat.

Ms Chloe and her hundred puppies

Yesterday we had Mr Knuckles and today I bring you Ms Chloe. What an amazing girl. For this shoot she had to sit patiently while we covered her with one hundred little miniatures of herself. Each of the puppies was sold off and proceeds went towards Pink Ribbon Day and the search for a cure for breast cancer.

I’m amazed what lengths people will go to in order to raise funds for worthwhile charities, and I’m currently tossing around ideas for my next act of philanthropy. I have some ideas, but does anyone have any suggestions for a dog charity doing great work who would be worth supporting.

Puppies for ears

In 2006 I did some photography is support of Pink Ribbon Day. A lady I had met was raising funds for this very worthwhile cause by selling little stuffed toys which were replicas of her Black Standard Poodle, named Miss Chloe. I had travelled to Louise’s house to photograph Miss Chloe with 100 poodle toys. One of these days I’ll post those photos, but for the time being, here is her son hamming it up for the camera.

No shortage of ‘doodles!

I captured this photo when we visited Idyllwild back in March. Quite a lot of the business owners had their pets in the store with them. I really wish I could take my dog into work. 

I’ve noticed over the last couple of years that I’ve photographed quite a lot of ‘doodles’…you know…labradoodles, goldendoodles etc. Anyone have another type I’ve doodle I should know about? How about a Cockerdoodle? That would be funny.

Bella, the La Jolla Fashionista

The other weekend I took my friend Liz up to La Jolla for the afternoon to check out this beautiful suburb. Thankfully I took my camera with me because there were so many dogs out and about. We met Bella as we were in search of some coffee. She is a Goldendoodle, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, so I guess she’s now blessed with looks and a brain. She’s certainly a pretty girl. Check out those eyelashes!
