Off to Central America

Tomorrow we fly out for a three week vacation in Central America. I anticipate that there are going to be plenty of stray dogs to photograph and I’m quite excited to document my travel in this way again. Hopefully I’ll be able to post from the road, but if not I have plenty of photos already scheduled until my return.

Market street in Varanasi

Plenty of Indian silk and cotton scarves were purchased in this market. I think we did a deal and got 50 scarves for about $10. Seriously, I still have about two dozen in my drawer, but it’s too hot in California to wear them all.

Give me some attitude

This kid loves the camera…and I think it loves him. One thing I noticed in rural India is that people love to be in photographs. It’s a photographers dream. This shot was taken in Chanderi, India.

Dream Interpretation

I chose this photo today, because that temple in the background featured in my dreams the other night. I dreamt that there were puppies crawling all over it, almost like they were monkeys. Someone had come to me with the idea of starting a charity to help out the puppies living on the temple, but for some reason, in my dream it was located in Cambodia, not India. I really wanted to help out this charity and I was so excited, but this person decided that I would be given the job of looking after only two of the puppies. I tried to explain that I could help with fundraising, marketing, photography, management…almost anything…but they wouldn’t give me any responsibility. I was frustrated with their attitude and said I couldn’t help after all. In the end, this person decided that they were going to drop the idea because they didn’t want to deal with people in an undeveloped country. So in the end I got to take over the charity. The dream ended there, but it’s stuck with me for two days.

I think I need some Freudian dream analysis on this one.

Waiting, wanting.

Photographed on the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi early one morning.

Temple Dog and Saddhu

Honestly, I think some of the dogs in India lived in the most fantastic places. Doesn’t this photo conjure up wonderful imaginings? It does for me, and I was there!
