Winner!!!

The winner of a FREE copy of the Dog A Day photo book is Donna Martin. Woo Hoo! Donna, please email me your shipping address and I’ll make sure the book gets to you as soon as it’s available.

Thanks to everyone who left me a comment or sent an email over the last week. I really appreciate everyone’s excellent input. I’m busy designing the book and hope to have it off to the printers soon. It should be available for sale toward the end of October at which time I’ll show photos of the finished product and announce which great charity gets the proceeds. Stay tuned.

Win a FREE book from A Dog A Day

Today, A Dog A Day has reached a milestone. It’s been six months since the first post on this blog and of course we need to celebrate in style. To commemorate half a year of daily dog photos, I’m putting together a book of favourites. It will probably be called something clever and witty like ‘The best of A Dog A Day-  2008′ unless someone can suggest something better. I hope to have the books on sale by the end of October and of course, all proceeds will go to charity. So what next?

Well, I need your help! Each person who provides input to this book will go into the draw to win a copy. And it’s oh so easy to help. Leave a comment with the answers to the following questions and you get two entries into the draw. If you are shy, you can email me with your answers and you’ll get one entry into the draw.

1. I need help selecting the best images featured on this blog from 6 April 2008 - 6 Oct 2008. Please let me know your FIVE favourite images on this blog from the last 6 months. You might have to go back through the archives to refresh your memory.

2. Suggest a dog related charity who would be worthy recipients of the proceeds from this project.

3. (desirable) Suggest a catchy name for the book.

And that’s it! Easy huh? I’m accepting input until 7pm PST Monday 12 Oct 08 (12pm AEDT 13 Oct 08). I will announce the winner of a FREE book on the following day.

Your chance to get a FREE doggie gift card pack

Oops….Once again a milestone has gone quietly unnoticed while all the excitement was happening. 300 comments came and went and this time the lucky winner is Emilee Fuss. Yay Emilee. I’m going to send a Dogs of India gift card pack your way. Just email me with your address and it will be in the mail with the others tomorrow.

Because I’m so late with 300, I’m going to announce 400 comments very, very soon. You know what that means?

If you want a pack of Dogs of India gift cards heading your way, all you have to do is leave a comment and be lucky number 400. It’s as simple as that.

And in the usual form, I googled ‘Three Hundred Dogs’ for today’s picture. It’s a photo of three hundred dog kennels on a glacier in Alaska where some sled dogs from the US were spending the summer. You can read about it here. I seriously want to go sled dogging. Has anyone been?

How is this for an interesting turn of events. We’ve just turned over 300 comments (Yay!) and Rebecca who is featured in today’s photo was lucky enough to comment on her own photo at just the right time. Winner! I love when the universe works this way.

Anyway, I have an extra special surprise for Rebecca. I submitted a photo of her puppy Max to Art Dog Blog who were running a little competition. It was just announced this morning that Max was one of the winners and his photo will be turned into a beautiful piece of artwork. I just love the stunning work produced my Art Paw Custom Pet Portraits and I can’t wait to see what they do with Max. I’ll be sure to post a photo of the finished product as soon as I receive it (and before I pass it to Rebecca).

Now, for Rebecca. It is truly your lucky day. Go out and buy yourself a lottery ticket!

I’m pleased to announce that A Dog A Day has now received over 200 comments. Once again I want to thank my loyal blog readers for their continued contribution.

The lucky 200th commentator and winner of $20 Thousand Hound Gift Voucher is Pen from Dogtales and Dreams. Be sure to check out her gorgeous blog and in particular the delicious photos of a chocolate labrador puppy named Murphy.

Please keep on voting on the poll below. I really appreciate the feedback that you provide as it will help me to shape the future direction of this blog.

There’s no secret that I love comments. They bring the blog to life and make it truly interactive. I learn so much from the people who leave me comments.

I really want to encourage people to comment and intend to give away random gifts for my commenters. I thought 100 must be coming up soon, so this morning I went to check. I was shocked to find that the milestone had quietly passed sometime in May while I was on vacation. Never mind…It’s not too late to celebrate.

Inspired by Jasmine Star I’ve gone searching for a random image when I type ‘100 Dog’ into Google Images. So that’s where this picture comes from.

OK…without further ado, I’d like to announce that the lucky 100th commenter (and winner of a $20 Dog A Day coupon) is POLLY!!! Hooray. Thanks for all your support Polly. You’ve been following me from before the very beginning so I think it’s only fitting that you are the inaugural recipient.

Since I’m so late announcing 100 comments, the big 200 is just around the corner. Keep the great comments coming!!

And the Winner is…

Kendrick from Kendrick Disch Photography!!! Woo Hoo!! For those of you just now coming across the action, I ran a little competition a couple of days ago to help me remember the breed of this stunning dog.

This dog is indeed a Caucasian Ovcharka. No wonder I couldn’t remember the name of it. I don’t think we even have these in Australia, or if we do, they are very rare.

Other names for this breed include:

  • Gampr
  • Çoban iti
  • Nagazi nagazi
  • Caucasian Shepherd Dog
  • Caucasian Mountain Dog
  • Caucasian Sheepdog
  • Kavkaski Ovcar
  • Kavkaz Dog
  • Kavkaz Mastiff
  • Kavkaz Volkodav
  • Kavkazskaya (…kiaia) Ovcharka
  • Russian Kavkazskaya Ovtcharka
  • Ovtcharka (Owtcharka)
  • Sage Ghafghazi
  • Volkodav
Haven’t we all just learnt something new today? I know I have.
A big thanks to everyone who left a comment. Kendrick, I’ll be in contact with your coupon code.
