Earthquake hits Costa Rica

Just last week I experienced my first Earthquake (magnitude 4.1) while living in San Diego, California. It seems Costa Rica experienced a much worse one on 8 Jan 09 at magnitude 6.1, causing widespread destruction as entire buildings collapsed, landslides and falling rocks blocked roads, and thousands of people were forced to evacuate. The government has since declared a national emergency, and human as well as animal casualties are continuing to mount.

If anyone is wondering which charity to give to this year, perhaps consider WSPA disaster relief work as a worthy recipient.

Winner!!!

The winner of a FREE copy of the Dog A Day photo book is Donna Martin. Woo Hoo! Donna, please email me your shipping address and I’ll make sure the book gets to you as soon as it’s available.

Thanks to everyone who left me a comment or sent an email over the last week. I really appreciate everyone’s excellent input. I’m busy designing the book and hope to have it off to the printers soon. It should be available for sale toward the end of October at which time I’ll show photos of the finished product and announce which great charity gets the proceeds. Stay tuned.

Win a FREE book from A Dog A Day

Today, A Dog A Day has reached a milestone. It’s been six months since the first post on this blog and of course we need to celebrate in style. To commemorate half a year of daily dog photos, I’m putting together a book of favourites. It will probably be called something clever and witty like ‘The best of A Dog A Day-  2008′ unless someone can suggest something better. I hope to have the books on sale by the end of October and of course, all proceeds will go to charity. So what next?

Well, I need your help! Each person who provides input to this book will go into the draw to win a copy. And it’s oh so easy to help. Leave a comment with the answers to the following questions and you get two entries into the draw. If you are shy, you can email me with your answers and you’ll get one entry into the draw.

1. I need help selecting the best images featured on this blog from 6 April 2008 - 6 Oct 2008. Please let me know your FIVE favourite images on this blog from the last 6 months. You might have to go back through the archives to refresh your memory.

2. Suggest a dog related charity who would be worthy recipients of the proceeds from this project.

3. (desirable) Suggest a catchy name for the book.

And that’s it! Easy huh? I’m accepting input until 7pm PST Monday 12 Oct 08 (12pm AEDT 13 Oct 08). I will announce the winner of a FREE book on the following day.

Ms Chloe and her hundred puppies

Yesterday we had Mr Knuckles and today I bring you Ms Chloe. What an amazing girl. For this shoot she had to sit patiently while we covered her with one hundred little miniatures of herself. Each of the puppies was sold off and proceeds went towards Pink Ribbon Day and the search for a cure for breast cancer.

I’m amazed what lengths people will go to in order to raise funds for worthwhile charities, and I’m currently tossing around ideas for my next act of philanthropy. I have some ideas, but does anyone have any suggestions for a dog charity doing great work who would be worth supporting.

Thankyou! India Dog Gift Cards

I just wanted to say a huge thanks to those of you who purchased the Dogs of India gift cards. Most of them have now been posted and you should have received an automated response from my system to let you know they are on their way.

I’m still just waiting on a couple of checks to come in and then I can let you know the final amount we’ve raised. I can say we have currently raised just over US$180. What an awesome response. Thankyou all so very much. It goes without saying that I couldn’t have done it without you!

Last Day to buy cards to help puppies

This is the final image from the Gift Card pack which I’m selling to raise funds to spay/neuter and vaccinate dogs in India. Today is the final day to purchase these cards. The gallery will go offline today so that I have time to package the cards up and get them ready to send all around the globe.

A huge thanks to the following people for purchasing some cards. Your donations are greatly appreciated. The world could really do with more people like you.

Ann, Rebecca, Polly, Kelly, Karla, Charlotte, Lori, Leesia, Lauren, Bec, Jill, Elizabeth, Jamie, Grace, Tracy, Lynsey, Aubree and Jennifer.

If you would like to purchase a pack of gift cards, it’s not too late. CLICK HERE for all the details.

Dogs of India Gift Cards have arrived!!

The Dogs of India Gift Cards have arrived from the printers and I can’t believe how amazing they look. Truly, they have exceeded my expectations, and even Zoe gives them her stamp of approval. She agreed to have her photo taken again, if that is what it took to endorse this product.

At the time of posting, I have sold 17 packs of cards. I am so grateful to those people for their support…you know who you are. However, I had 50 packs printed and I would dearly like to sell them all. Otherwise, people will be getting Dogs of India gift cards from me for birthdays, engagements, weddings and Christmas until I fall off the perch.

Besides, the whole point of this exercise was to raise some money to go towards the very worthy cause of reducing the number of dogs in India who do not have permanent homes. A mere $10 would be enough to have one dog spayed/neutered and vaccinated. If you were to buy a pack of these gift cards, not only are you helping a great cause, you do get to share this wonderful gift with five other people (if you choose to give your cards away). I’m sure they’ll be a real talking point and people cannot help but think of you as a wonderful person. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Ok…surely I’ve given you a great sales pitch. Please hurry and buy yourself a pack (or two) of these gift cards. Last day is 24 July 2008.
