Watching the world go by

A distinguished lady

Can you believe this old girl is 15? I think she is adorable, and really enjoyed photographing her in her family home back in Canberra. I also love that she matches the decor so perfectly.

Beagle chew toy

I photographed this beagle for a client in Canberra about 18 months ago. I just love his pose.

Puppy’s family portrait

Happy Birthday Rebecca. I hope you have a wonderful day with your beautiful family.

Once again, this photo was taken in Balboa Park, San Diego. I love to use the architecture available to me to create a unique image and when I saw these steps in front of this old blue door, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. For me, the colours really work together and I get a kick out of how everyone’s paws are hanging in unison. You’d almost think I had planned it that way.

I really hope I get the opportunity to photograph more dogs in interesting urban settings. I really love architecture and I should photograph it more often, but I usually find it lacks life without people or dogs included.

The Beagles are here

I’ve had some slight technical difficulty getting today’s post up , so my apologies for those of you who checked in earlier. Hopefully the post looks a bit more normal now.

I thought I had better post a photo of a Beagle pretty soon. I had heard murmerings from a couple of blog reading Beagle lovers, so I though I had better appease the masses.

I was obviously going through a real ‘angle’ phase when I undertook this photo session. It was particularly obvious to me when I rediscovered these photos last weekend. While the angle might be a little much for my current tastes I still love the image. I’m a bit of a fan of almost monochromatic colour schemes where the dogs match the colours of their surroundings.

Happy Smiley Max

More of Max!! I think this is one of my favourite photos from my photo shoot with Max the puggle puppy. I love that his people are in the shot, but it’s all about him. What a poser!

You can see more of Max here and here.

Family Portrait

I know I have a few people hanging out to see some more of Max and his family’s photo session, and who am I to keep them waiting!

I nearly fell over when I was going through the photos of the day and this one popped up. I knew at the time it was going to be a good one, but I was surprised how the finished product came out. It almost looks like it was taken in a studio, but I can assure you that this was taken in Balboa Park using only natural light.

I had Rebecca and Pat stand a few metres away from the wall and just out of direct sunlight so there is plenty of lovely diffuse light on their faces, but the background is dark and has been thrown out of focus. The thing I love about on location photoshoots is the opportunity to find these great spots. Studio photography just does not challenge me in the same way.

And don’t they all smile so pretty? I usually try to be reasonably candid, but this is one family who loves the camera…. or does the camera love them? Maybe a bit of both.
