Win a FREE book from A Dog A Day

Today, A Dog A Day has reached a milestone. It’s been six months since the first post on this blog and of course we need to celebrate in style. To commemorate half a year of daily dog photos, I’m putting together a book of favourites. It will probably be called something clever and witty like ‘The best of A Dog A Day-  2008′ unless someone can suggest something better. I hope to have the books on sale by the end of October and of course, all proceeds will go to charity. So what next?

Well, I need your help! Each person who provides input to this book will go into the draw to win a copy. And it’s oh so easy to help. Leave a comment with the answers to the following questions and you get two entries into the draw. If you are shy, you can email me with your answers and you’ll get one entry into the draw.

1. I need help selecting the best images featured on this blog from 6 April 2008 - 6 Oct 2008. Please let me know your FIVE favourite images on this blog from the last 6 months. You might have to go back through the archives to refresh your memory.

2. Suggest a dog related charity who would be worthy recipients of the proceeds from this project.

3. (desirable) Suggest a catchy name for the book.

And that’s it! Easy huh? I’m accepting input until 7pm PST Monday 12 Oct 08 (12pm AEDT 13 Oct 08). I will announce the winner of a FREE book on the following day.

  1. Erica Byrnes   -

    1. Top five favorites:
    *Harry
    *Tug-O-War
    *Soul Dogs - 5
    *Yoga & Meditation
    *Asia

    2. Gainesville Pet Rescue, Inc. http://www.GainesvillePetRescue.org
Dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted animals and promoting responsible pet ownership through adoptions, spay/neuter and education.

    3. I love the concept of the 24/7 photography (e.g., “America 24/7″), my best suggestion for your book title is something similar: “Dogs 24/7: Portraits of the lives of our favorite animals”.

    Great idea! Best wishes!

  2. Rebecca McDaniel   -

OK, I’m finally ready to do this. Like everyone else, I had a great deal of trouble narrowing them down. I picked 8 instead of 5, but the ones I picked I truly love. Here are my favorites in chronological order, not order of preference:

    1. No Escape - April 6th
    2. Taj Dog - April 13th
    3. Very Cavalier - May 5th
    4. Lord of the Fleas - June 11th
    5. Zoe the Ring Bearer - July 14th
    6. Happy Smiley Max - July 16th
    7. The Wanderer - August 1st
    8. Puppy’s Family Portrait - August 4th

I would recommend the following title for the book, borrowing a bit from Rachel’s suggestion:

    Thousand Hound Photography Presents
A Dog a Day Keeps the Sorrow Away (the font on this line being the largest of the entire title)
The Best of “A Dog A Day”
    April 6, 2008 - October 6, 2008
    By Mia Clapton

I would also recommend donating the money to PETA.

  3. Lori   -

Mia..wow…this was really hard to choose! I literally had more than a dozen and had to play “eenie meenie miney mo” to pick 5! :)

Here you go (in no particular order):

    *No Escape
    *Tug-O-War
    *Soul Dogs-Five
    *The Wanderer
    *Lord of the Fleas

Suggested dog charity: So many good ones! A personal favorite of mine is here in Western Montana: http://www.rollingdogranch.org (An animal sanctuary for disabled animals)

Suggested Book Title: “Mia Captures A Dog-A-Day” or “Dog Soul”

**But, I think you should also make an entire book about your Indian dogs.

Book title: “A Thousand Hounds: Volume I”

  7. Emilee   -

    Okay, here are my favorites!
    1. No Escape (I cannot say how cute this one is!)
    2. Yoga Doing Dogs
    3. Lord of the Fleas (this one makes me melt everytime I look at it!)
    4. Watching the World Go By
    5. Guard Dogs
As for a dog related charity, there are many that are near me. I’ll pick the first one that comes to mind… Okay, EARS is great: http://www.ears4life.com
And once again, Mia, you are amazing!

  8. Emilee   -

Mia, you are amazing! I’m looking through the archives right now. This is gonna be tough!

  9. Jamie   -

Ok, I did my homework. First off, I have to say you are really really mean for making us pick just 5 favorites. Do you know how hard that is? I went back through the archives and was like “oooh, I like this one! No wait- this is my favorite!”. 15 favorites might have been a *skosh* more reasonable- you have too many fantastic photos Mia!

Ok, so my top 5 favorites (out of my top 15 list) are:

    1. dog beach coronado (close second is tug o war)

    2. Taj Dog

    3. No escape

    4. lab babies

    5. lord of the fleas (I think this is one of your all-time best photographs- would make a GREAT cover shot!)

    6. Puppy’s family portrait (with Max the puggle)

And I love the one with Zoe destroying her ball, and with the pinecone thing in her mouth. And the one of her in the metal sculpture at night.

Wait, that’s 6. Sigh, that is the very best I can do! Can’t wait to see which images end up in the book! :-)

  10. Rachel   -

    1. I need help selecting the best images featured on this blog from 6 April 2008 - 6 Oct 2008. Please let me know your FIVE favourite images on this blog from the last 6 months. You might have to go back through the archives to refresh your memory.

    1:Temple Dog and Saddhu
    2:Guard Dogs
    3:Keeping watch
    4: Yoga and Meditation
    5: The Thinker

    2. Suggest a dog related charity who would be worthy recipients of the proceeds from this project: Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

    3. (desirable) Suggest a catchy name for the book: A dog a day keeps the sorrow away.

  11. Grace   -

What an awesome, fun idea! Seriously I don’t know how I’ll pick… give me a minute :)

  12. claire   -

    what a wonderful project!!!
i am going to have to mull over my favorite photos as well, but i’ll be thinking on it.
also - where do you get your book printed?? i’d love that info if you don’t mind sharing!

make sure to share photos when it’s printed, i can’t wait to see how it turns out!

  13. Tamandra   -

OK, looked at them all. Haaard decision, so many great ones! First, has to be a German Shepherd, Zoe of course, with the laugh out loud “Zoe improvises a ball”. (Had to pick that one, with a GSD obsessed with holding objects in his mouth, too!), then “Man’s Best Friend”, “Tug-o-war”, “I Didn’t Do It”, “Soul Dog Five” and “New Arrival”. I think I am really drawn to the expressions.

A great charity here is PAWS, Pets Are Wonderful Support. My four pawed family and I are clients, and I’ve donated art for them, too. They do great work!

  14. Emily   -

Woo hoo I’m first!!!!! I may be somewhat bias towards big dogs but here are my 5 fav entries - 2nd May - I’m looking at you looking at me, 4th October - Rusty aka Russ - in memory of my gorgeous boy, 29th August - Zoe the Sphinx, 28th August - Soul dogs five, 25th April - True Blue. Does the charity have to be American???? Maybe you could split the proceeds between an Aussie Charity and an American one???? Just a thought - I think the RSPCA does wonders so they’d be my pick. Hmmm, and a name for the book - I’m not the most creative person but what about - ‘Six months of hot doggies’ hehe

  15. Jamie   -

Su-weeeet!! I am all over this!! What a fantastic idea Mia! I can’t wait to see the comments roll in. I’ve gotta run out for a bit but will get back to you with my faves. It is going to be impossible to pick but I have a few faves just off the top of my head.

  16. Leesia   -

awwww!!! i LOVE this image, one of my favorites from you yet. too cute for words! i will think about your questions (i want to win something! :)) and will be back later with some answers.
