Rusty aka Russ

As promised, here is another photo of Rusty. Every time I would stay at my sisters house, Rusty would have an impromptu photo session. He was always obliging…in fact he could hardly care less. The biggest challenge was actually getting his attention. Most dogs respond to food or whistles or balls or anything. Not Russ. The only thing we could do to get his attention was to drop his food bowl on the floor. Then his ears would perk up for a fraction of a second before he once again returned to his Zen state. This photo was taken next to a big window one afternoon while he was waiting for his parents to return. My sister, Emily chose this photo for a big canvas to hang on their newly painted, dark red wall. It looks stunning. I’m so thankful, that as a dog photographer, I have the opportunity to memorialise so many beautiful animals. In fact, I’m going to make an effort to take more photos of my own dog, Zoe.

Love this one. Ordinarily I don’t go for angled compositions b/c I think they tend to look stilted and forced but you definitely made the right choice for this one. The bedspread rocks as a background, too (how did you get the Teddy Bear to wear a bowtie that matched the red?)

Russ is so beautiful and has the most endearing eyes….Emily~I can see the black spot on his tongue that you referenced..adorable lil’ birthmark. May loving memories of this gentle giant you call Russ give you peace.

Oh I love this photo and am sooooooooo glad I have it on my wall… he was the most beautiful dog and will be irreplaceable. I always loved that black spot on his tongue and he had the most beautiful black eyes - I can’t get the picture out of my head of the few moments before he passed and the colour just drained out of his eyes…. awful. I applaud anyone that can bear to become a vet, I wouldn’t be able to handle it.

I too love the fact that you memorialize animals. Not only do you leave your mark on the world, but you leave theirs as well. You document life. What a beautiful and significant calling, Mia.
