Happy Halloween

Is Happy Halloween the right thing to say? It just doesn’t seem right for some reason. If Halloween is all about ghouls and ghosts then why would we say that is happy? Anyway, I guess you can tell that we don’t really ‘do’ Halloween in Australia so the whole experience is new to me. Having said that, it’s all a bit of fun.

The other morning I was walking Zoe past our neighbours house and when I checked to see what she was sniffing I let out a small scream (It was really small OK!). Our neighbours had planted a fake, severed hand in their front yard and I completely wasn’t expecting it. I think I made their day though. I could hear peals of laughter coming from their house.

Tonight I’m going to a small party at a friends house and we’re having cocktails and I’m carving my first pumpkin. I think they took pity on me when I asked what I had to do when kids came trick or treating. It’s so much fun living in a new country!

Kudos to Mel for the design and photography for this shot. We put it together for the ARF 2008 Calendar, and I think I was the dog wrangler for this particular session. Mel had the best ideas!

awesome shot. love that you guys picked a black and tan dog instead of something easier to shoot against black. it makes it look that much more striking. and happy to hear your friends are introducing you to the fantastic holiday of halloween! The best american holiday IMO.

Mia, we actually had quite a few kids wandering the streets of Jerra all dressed up. When I first saw them I wondered what on earth they were doing! We didn’t get any trick or treaters though - like you I wouldn’t have known what to do with them! I love this photo, it’s been on our study wall all October so I should have known why the kids were all dressed up! Didn’t see any pumpkins though!

Great Halloween photo! I personally love Halloween, it is one of my favorite holidays! I’m so happy I get to share our traditions with you this evening and experience your first with you. Max the Puggle puppy is dressing up as a pumpkin for his first Halloween. He’s going to stay with my mom tonight while we’re at the party and she’s delighted to have him. I took pictures of him in his costume already that I’ll have to share with you.
