Puppy’s family portrait

Happy Birthday Rebecca. I hope you have a wonderful day with your beautiful family.

Once again, this photo was taken in Balboa Park, San Diego. I love to use the architecture available to me to create a unique image and when I saw these steps in front of this old blue door, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. For me, the colours really work together and I get a kick out of how everyone’s paws are hanging in unison. You’d almost think I had planned it that way.

I really hope I get the opportunity to photograph more dogs in interesting urban settings. I really love architecture and I should photograph it more often, but I usually find it lacks life without people or dogs included.

You are so right- the blue door behind them is downright yummy. The contrast with the steps is perfect. That is one of the things I love so much about being a location pet photographer and shooting dogs in places you aren’t familiar with. Unlike pro commercial photographers you don’t have time to scout the location first, and see what is there, and set up your camera for the perfect light, and get everything ‘ready’ for the shoot. Which means you have to be super spontaneous and creative and look for beauty and interest everywhere around you- whether it is a blue door in a park, or a bunch of old furniture on a street in India- that is something you are clearly an expert at Mia- finding really beautiful dynamic backdrops wherever your camera takes you. I positively cannot wait until you go back to full time dog photography!! Go Mia, go Mia, go Mia! (pom-poms in hand). Besides, the world already has too many aeronautical nuclear physicist engineers (or whatever it is you do). ;-)

Thank you, Mia. This photo is my very favorite from the shoot, as I’m sure you know since you posted it for my birthday! Thank you so much! I love the coloring and also the way we’re all hanging our arms down. It just kind of happened that way. I’m so glad I’ve found such a talented photographer and friend in you. Absolutely beautiful - you and the photographs you take.
