I love when you have waited patiently for a shot, and it actually comes together. I think many people fail to wait for their shot to happen, and therefore miss the moment. For instance, in this shot I saw the man with the cart walking alongside the train at the same time the dog was approaching this spot. I had been watching this dog for five minutes and knew that it stopped to scratch with some frequency. All I needed was for the moustached soldier to remain stationary and I knew it was a matter of time before the ‘moment’ would happen.
My philosophy is to always be aware of what is going on around you. That way you can often pre-empt when a good shot is about to happen.

Nicole..you are now my new favourite person! Any comparison to Henri-Cartier Bresson is high praise indeed.
Like I said before - you are living the essence of Henri-Cartier Bresson. You are talking about the “Decisive Moment” and you are always capturing it so well.
lol! love it! you’re absolutely right about the patience and just being aware of what’s already happening around you…great capture!
Man these photos are so. freakin. good. So glad you stopped and waited for the moment on this one.
So there’s at least two dog photographers in San Diego! It’s hard to believe there’s not more with so many dogs here… Great composition. I love the variety in your photographs.
great advice, waiting for the moment to happen. My best photos don’t happen until the end of the shoot I’ve noticed.
