Zoe the Ring Bearer

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Zoe was the ring bearer at our wedding last year. Her presence at the wedding made the entire event so much fun. Throughout the entire ceremony she decided to face the wrong way so she could watch the ducks down on the pond. Didn’t she realise this was one of the most important days in her parent’s lives? She dropped her flowers somewhere on her walk down the aisle. The rings were attached to the flowers so there was a moment of panic when the flowers were found to be missing. Thankfully the rings were still attached to her collar. Please don’t consider having your dog in your wedding ceremony unless you can handle chaos on your big day!

I just love this photo of the girls getting the rings from Zoe. I can’t believe I only just rediscovered this photo on the weekend. I’m laughing as I remember everything that happened this day. I love that photos can invoke such a recall of memories.

Just ask Zoe…she knows she’s gorgeous. She’s actually the most calm German Shepherd I’ve ever met. She’s rarely anxious (except for fireworks or thunder), always up for cuddles and loves EVERYONE! She’s such a people dog and loves when people come to the house for a visit. She’s pretty smart, although wasn’t always that way. She was the runt of the litter and grew into her brains and good looks. She does the funniest thing with her dinner bowl. She picks it up and carries it around when it’s time for food and will drop it outside the door until we let her in. Too smart for her own good alright!

Aha! You are owned by a GSD - the most neurotic, genius, willful, sweet and loving breed on the planet. Zoe is gorgeous. I just love the worried look in the picture. How classic is that? Does she frantically try to get between you and your husband whenever you hug or have a serious conversation?

My wife and I were owned by a shepherd for almost 15 years. She was way too smart for her own good and I’m convinced she left an instruction book behind for our latest dog — we downsized to a terrier — but I swear he does things and goes to places that only Heidi knew about.

Thanks for posting this shot. It made my day.

As always, I love the story behind the photo just as much as the photo itself! Yes, even though it may have been a bit chaotic the day of, it has given you a lifetime of laughter and smiles as you recall it in your mind. And may I just add how beautiful everything looked, the colors, the dresses, the necklaces… Gorgeous, Mia!
