Finding Nemo

In early 2007 I was really starting to ramp up my pet photography business. I had a steady stream of clients and I was looking to improve processes and start on the next direction the business was going to take. That’s all history now, because my ‘real job’ took priority when I was offered an awesome position in San Diego for three years.

Just before I found out about the move, I had designed this postcard featuring a handsome German Shorthaired Pointer named Nemo. I had a whole bunch printed, but I never really got around to using them at all. The process was a lot of fun, and I’d really like to learn more about graphic design. Perhaps I should do a course, or…..maybe I have enough on my plate and I should just stick to experimentation :) A good start might be a redesign of the blog to make it look a little more funky. What do you think?

wait no, I didn’t meant to call you ’simple’! Definitely memorable and unique! You may be simple, but certainly not in the brains department! Oh where is a shovel when you need one, ha ha…

I am a wannabee graphic designer myself. There is sooo much to learn though that it feels overwhelming. Honestly Mia none of your designs look like they need any help. I like the new masthead but I think my favorite is still your original one with the white background. So simple yet so memorable and unique! Just like you, awwww…. :-)

  3. I love it! Love the colors, the backgrounds, the expression on Nemo’s face. I have a Nemo, too! He’s a Great Dane/Hound mix and one the loves of my life!

Never fear…the content of blog posts will remain the same…a mix of everything. I’m just thinking I need to put a little more effort into coming up with a logo for Thousand Hound Photography and some branding for the blog. Perhaps a new masthead up the top. At the moment it doesn’t feel quite punchy enough to me.

Mia, I might be an old traditionalist but I love the blog just the way it is, with a mix of everything. While I like the different look of this post I also love the great portraits you do (like Zoe in the last post) and the unguarded moments you capture between humans and their furkids. Sometimes less can be more…although I’m no professional photographer!
