A gloomy day at the beach

Just last week I mentioned this weather phenomenon we’ve been experiencing in San Diego called May Grey. It’s caused by this low cloud called a marine layer and it makes the day all gloomy and nasty.

On the weekend we decided to take Zoe to the beach in Coronado. We live on the bay side of Coronado and we had beautiful blue skies and the temperature was slowly warming up to a hot day. We packed Zoe into the back of the car and drove the 5 minutes to dog beach on the other side of the island. You guessed it….the marine layer was thick and heavy. The beach was still crowded with people and their dogs, but it was very surreal seeing people emerge out of the thick fog.

Compare this photo taken on the weekend with this one taken a few months ago from the same beach.

Oh, and here’s something that brought some joy and laughter into my life yesterday afternoon. I’d had one of ‘those’ afternoons and when I got home to read through my regular blogs I was delighted to read about Coco’s love of eating poop. This post from Dooce just cracks me up.

LOVE these shots! I think I actually like these more than the sunny shots. When are you going to start promoting your services in San Diego? The townfolk (sorry- too many westerns) are going to flip! You can become the ‘Coronado Beach Photojournalist Dog Photographer’ :-)

San Diego has THE BEST DOG BEACHES. The one’s in LA just don’t even compare. At least the June Gloom makes for some gorgeous photography.
